2023: INSTAGRAM EXCEEDS 2 BILLION

Instagram currently has more than two billion monthly active users worldwide, according to Meta. After reaching 1 billion users four years ago, the number has doubled and is already approaching Facebook’s 2.96 billion members.

Does this, however, reflect the actual situation? Are the 2 billion monthly active users indeed real people that use Instagram? We should surely talk about that.

The details were revealed by Meta in its third-quarter 2022 financial report. According to the report, there will be 3.71 billion family members who will be active on a monthly basis and 2.93 billion family members who will be active daily. In other words, those are the users who utilize the complete family of apps from Meta on a global scale. As for Facebook alone, as of September 30, 2022, it has 2.96 billion monthly active users and an average of 1.98 billion daily active users.

Instagram exceeded its one billionth monthly active user in June 2018. Since then, there have been significant modifications, including a concentration on Reels and the addition of advertisements almost everywhere.The increase in Instagram users, according to Bloomberg, is “a sign of the social media giant’s shifting makeup.” There is no denying that the number of monthly active users has increased. Do the “2 billion users” actually refer to 2 billion people? That is something I wanted to briefly touch on.

First of all, just like me, I’m sure you’ve noticed Instagram bots. These also count as “users,” but they certainly don’t use Instagram the same way that you or I do. And second, a single person is allowed to use the site with many accounts. Instagram even exhorts you to create a second account if you don’t already have one. I manage numerous accounts, for instance. Separating their personal belongings from their professional endeavors is something that many other inventors, entrepreneurs, and artists also do. Nowhere does it say if one account counts as one user. Alternatively, one person may have several accounts. In any case, I doubt that 2 billion people actually use Instagram, but I suppose Meta may claim that there are 2 billion active “users” of it. anyone can interpret it at their will.
